TWO men - one of whom is 70 - have appeared in court charged with stealing a vast amount of booze from Sainsbury's in Stroud.
Ian Bannister, 70, and James Williams, 39, are accused of stealing alcohol worth £1,740 between them from the store in Dudbridge.
Among the items listed as stolen are six bottles of Remy Martin brandy and several bottles of Jack Daniel's bourbon whiskey.
Bannister is accused of stealing six 70cl bottles of Remy Martin VSOP, a bottle of Au Vodka Blue Raspberry, a one-litre bottle of Jack Daniel's and a one-litre bottle of Gordon's Gin worth a total of £374 on June 27.
He is also charged with stealing a 70cl bottle of Ciroc Vodka, four one-litre bottles of Jack Daniel's and a 70cl bottle of Hennessy brandy worth a total of £205 from the store between June 10 and June 14.
In total, Bannister, of Zinnia Close, Churchdown, is charged with stealing nearly £600 worth of alcohol.
He appeared at Cheltenham Magistrates' Court on Thursday, August 17 along with Williams, of the same address.
Williams is accused of stealing alcohol worth a total of £1,161 from the same supermarket.
He is alleged to have stolen alcohol worth £800 on June 27 and worth £361 on July 15.
Both men were both released on conditional bail until a further hearing on September 28, when they are due to enter pleas.
Bail conditions were imposed banning the pair from entering any Sainsbury's store in Gloucestershire pending the next hearing.
