PLANS to build a new community hall near Stonehouse have officially been given the green light.

Proposals for a community space with changing room facilities and a play area with equipment in Great Oldbury have been granted planning approval by Stroud District Council

It will be located north of Great Oldbury Drive, next to five sports fields, as well as nearby Great Oldbury Primary Academy.

A floor plan for the community centre shows plans for a main hall, kitchen, entrance area, office space, storage and toilets.

Meanwhile, a second floor plan shows space for eight separate changing rooms with showers as well as two referee changing rooms and unisex toilets.

In addition, plans include creating 50 parking spaces plus five accessible spaces as well as a covered area with room for 12 bikes.

The project also includes the construction of play equipment for children between the ages of two and eight years old, such as a nest swing, a multi-play structure, a climbing structure, a climbing slope, and a spring see-saw.

Meanwhile, for children between the ages of two and fourteen, swings, a rotating structure, a swinging bar, a cableway, a rope pyramid and a monkey bar archway will be built.

The scheme was submitted by developer Robert Hitchins Limited and recieved planning permission on Thursday, July 13.

The community centre was previously included in an outline planning permission granted in 2016, which includes permission for up to 1,350 homes, 23 acres of employment land, and a primary school.

A case officer approving the application said: “The development would provide appropriate means for community facilities and recreation associated with the wider development as well as the wider district area.

“Officers are satisfied that the proposed sports pitches can be provided in a manner that is consistent with the sub-urban character of the emerging new neighbourhood and would not result in a detrimental impact upon the wider landscape.”
