THE COTSWOLDS will be given a platform in a popular TV railway show tomorrow.

Michael Portillo from the well-known BBC Two documentary series Great British Railway Journeys' will be on the Great Western Railway services in the Cotswolds.

Train fans can watch the idyllic scenery as they learn about the well-loved railways.

The episode featuring GWR will be aired on Thursday, July 20 at 6.30pm on BBC Two.

In tomorrow's episode, he drops in on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway in which he takes a trip from Broadway to Cheltenham behind resident Class 47 diesel no. 47105 and suggests that British Rail left an awful lot to be desired - epitomised perhaps by the ‘British Rail sandwich’

Series 14 first came to our screens on June 19 and is aired Monday to Friday at 6.30pm.

All episodes will be available on BBC iPlayer after they have been broadcast.

Viewers will be able to watch Michael take part in a personal journey exploring the "Britain of his youth." 

As a boomer, he was both in the decade after the end of the Second World War. 

In the series, he recalls the optimism and excitement of rebuilding a nation exhausted by conflict.

But he also relives British Rail's agony and ecstasy and the transition from steam to diesel, and how Britain was shaped by the new society and culture emerging in post-war Britain.

 He explores the eras of Beeching and Barbara Castle and their influence on Britain’s transport infrastructure.
