STUDENTS from Stroud High School have become national champions for the second time in a month.

The SHS dance team won the National Key Stage 3 finals of The Great Big Dance Off 2023.

After a long day of rehearsals and prep time, 39 students from Years 7, 8 and 9 performed at Cheltenham Town Hall on Monday 27 June.

With strong competition from other school dance teams from across England & Wales, the team were surprised and delighted to be announced as overall Key stage 3 winners!

Ruth Belcher, PE Teacher, said: “I am super proud of our dancers.

"They have shown tremendous amounts of dedication and resilience. The team thoroughly deserve to be crowned national champions after all their hard work over the past year.”

The Great Big Dance Off is a national dance competition open to schools all across England & Wales.

It is the only national dance competition aimed solely at schools.

The Stroud High Dance Team have been working on their winning choreography since September, alongside local dance teacher Sara Spence.

After winning the South Regional Heat in Swindon in March, they took their performance to the final in Cheltenham this week.

Incorporating a mixture of lyrical & contemporary dance styles, they wowed the judges, to be awarded the national title.

This accolade follows the success of the Stroud High School U15 Handball Team who were awarded national champion status earlier in June.
