A HOTEL in Stonehouse has been shortlisted for a prestigious award for their new green scheme, which has allowed their guests to save money.
Stonehouse Court is one of only five hotels shortlisted for the Most Innovative Marketing Campaign at the Boutique Hotelier Awards 2022.
The awards recognise the best hotels in the country showcasing their achievements after a year of recovery and new challenges.
The hotel on Bristol Road introduced a new green campaign in July to let their guests save money if they experienced cancelled flights amidst this summer’s travel chaos.
It offered 32 per cent off last-minute midweek bookings for those with recently cancelled flights.
General manager at Stonehouse Court Maz Jurko said he was ‘delighted’ to be nominated.
He said: “We’re so proud of how the campaign panned out as a whole.
“The team have worked extremely hard and demonstrated their passion for creating a cleaner, more sustainable future for both the local community and the wider world.
“We’re absolutely delighted to have been shortlisted for such a prestigious award.
“It’s been a fantastic opportunity for everyone connected to the business to see their efforts rewarded.”
To calculate the carbon impact, Stonehouse Court used C level’s flight calculator, which uses Defra carbon factors and methodology to calculate various carbon impacts.
For instance those who missed out on a flight the equivalent of Bristol to Sydney benefitted from up to £100.93 of carbon credits.
Chief executive of the Hospitality Professionals Association Jane Pendlebury said the hotel’s scheme was ‘marvellous’.
She said: “Stonehouse Court Hotel is a fantastic example of how the industry is using innovative and creative means to highlight our domestic offering.
“Hopefully, we’ll see more hotels offering similarly green-centric initiatives, and with a sustainable approach being such a big part of hospitality’s future, it’s marvellous to see innovative operators showing the way.”
“It’s a wonderful way of highlighting the carbon impact of flights.
“With so much travel disruption this summer, airports and airlines are really under the spotlight. And whilst cancelled flights will save on carbon emissions, delayed flights just serve to add even more – as waiting planes on the runway continue to burn fuel.”
Guests have until September 30 to take part in the carbon-saving cancellation package.
Customers must provide a form of evidence of the cancelled flight, which would need to have occurred sometime between July 1 2022 and September 30 2022.
