THE FAMILY of a Stroud sailor who recently joined the navy have shared their pride after he helped pull the Queen's gun carriage today.
Sam McGeary, aged 28, who went to Uplands Primary School, Brimscombe Primary and Thomas Keble, signed up for the Royal Navy about six months ago.
The 123-year-old gun carriage on which the Queen’s coffin was towed was pulled into New Palace Yard by 98 Royal Navy sailors.
Sam was one of them.
“We managed to see him quite a lot on TV today,” said proud aunty Jacquie Florek.
“All of the family are super proud of him.
"Sam's grandad and great-uncles were also in the navy.
“His mum died when he was 11 years old.
"The Queen's funeral today was therefore such an emotional time for all of us.
“We are just so proud.
“Sam was also happy to be there just a couple of metres away from the coffin and from King Charles."
