FOLLOWING exam results in August, many young people will be preparing for their next step, whether that’s starting sixth form, going to college or getting a job. An apprenticeship can offer the opportunity to develop new knowledge and skills, with a salary and training. In September, the public meetings of the council will resume, with all six committees meeting over the next few weeks: Development Control, Environment, Housing, Community Services & Licensing, Audit and Standards, and Strategy & Resources. We’ll be discussing many issues, and of course will be considering the impacts on local residents and businesses of the current cost of living challenges and ways in which our council can help people through this difficult time.

Also in September, we’re delighted that the men’s Tour of Britain cycling race will be arriving in Gloucestershire on Friday 9th September. Following The Women’s Tour in June, this is a great opportunity to see the riders as they speed through Stroud district, from Wotton-under-Edge, to North Nibley and Stinchcombe, onto Dursley, Uley, and then from Selsley into Stroud to Pitchombe and Edge, then heading to the finish line in Gloucester.

Finally, there is an opportunity to comment on proposed plans for the redevelopment of Brimscombe Port, which are now shared online: https://www.stroud.gov.uk/environment/our-vision-for-brimscombe-port . After the completion of site investigations in autumn of this year, a planning application will be submitted in May 2023 with works beginning in January 2024 and the first homes ready in December 2025.
