Farmers' market news with Gerb Gerbrands.
HOLD on tight everyone.
Here comes one of the most difficult autumn/winters we have experienced collectively for many years, for my children, in their lifetime!
As farmers’ market customers we are lucky to be at the most resilient end of food supply.
The direct route from producer to consumer is as resilient a food chain as you could possibly build.
Of course, all our farmers are suffering the same rise in background costs as you and I.
Everything in every chain is rocketing in price; raw materials costs are doubling or tripling over a matter of months, all components used on the farm from fencing to machinery maintenance have basically doubled in price.
However, they can confidently continue to produce knowing that their secure local customer base will understand the situation and continue to support them.
Traditionally the first market of September is a wonderful community event as we all return to base from our summer’s adventures and bump into each other all over town.
To compliment this, we have a bumper market for with all your regular favourites; the bakers and the growers, the rearers and the pickers, the brewers and the makers.
Look out for the Lavender Garden and Malvern Salvia Collection who are entering the final month of their season and the wonderful selection of apples on the Day’s Cottage stall and at Styan’s and Coleshill Organic.
It has been a good year for apples and most top fruit, with trees laden with fruit.
