IT’S the base for some thriving new businesses.

But Bond’s Mill at Stonehouse is also home to some fascinating wildlife.

And photographers who are part of our Gloucestershire Camera Club have been capturing it.

Amazing dragonflies

Among the creatures caught on camera is the migrant hawker dragonfly.

Paul Sutton took these pictures at the canalside site which was once a woollen mill.

The migrant hawker is one of the smaller species of hawker dragonflies.

It can be found away from water but for breeding it prefers still or slow-flowing water and can tolerate brackish sites.

Its flight period is from July to the end of October.

Keen photographer Lynda Newman posted a picture of some far bigger beasts.

Swans and moorhens

Over a period of days, Lynda has charted the activities of the area’s swans.

She watched two of them fight what she called a territorial battle one day, and then caught one of them gliding solo a little while later.

Lynda also posted a picture of two moorhen chicks at the estate.

Bond’s Mill was one of the first cloth mills to be established in the Stroud area, with a history dating back to the 15th century.
