A TEENAGER from Stroud has raised nearly £150 for Longfield hospice following a robbery at one of its charity shops.
Marcus Berlin, 17, organised a charity tennis tournament at Painswick Tennis Club.
Marcus was keen to raise funds following the robbery at the shop in Bisley Street, Painswick in December which left both the employee and the customer involved shocked and upset.
He said: “I was horrified to hear about the robbery last year – it was really upsetting, so unfair.”
“I’m a keen tennis player and a tournament at my local club seemed like a fun way to raise money for Longfield. I’m really pleased to have helped Longfield in this way.”
Marcus arranged for 16 players to take part in matches on Saturday, May 21 with each player donating £5 to participate with many donating larger amounts.
Rachel Jones, head of fundraising and marketing at Longfield, said: “We’re blown away by Marcus’s lovely gesture, and to raise £140 by setting up the tournament is wonderful!
“It was so thoughtful and kind to want to raise money to support Longfield’s patients and families, to help them get the best possible care and support.”
Longfield operates 19 charity shops in Gloucestershire, which are managed by a team of staff and volunteers.
Over 150,000 bags of preloved items were received by the stores last year, resulting in over 327,000 till transactions. Longfield's shops and voluntary donations generate 90 per cent of their revenue.
Any further donations can be made by visiting Longfield's website.
