A major disruption is expected next month as a busy road near Stroud is due to close for two months. 

Toadsmoor Road near Brimscombe will be completely shut from Monday, July 27 with access for residents restricted to three extremely narrow roads. 

The works, which will be led by National Highways on behalf of Gloucestershire County Council, will allow for the replacement of permanent traffic signals and will reopen on Saturday, September 3.

It is the only main road accessible to people living in Brownshill, Bussage, Manor Village, Chalford Hill and France Lynch.

The Chalford Parish Council is concerned about the road closure because alternative routes through the Old Neighbourhood and Bisley are too narrow for lorries delivering to businesses.

A council spokesperson said: “While we appreciate the work must be carried out, there must be some way of permitting residential access when work isn’t being carried out.”

“We are continuing to talk with Highways to see if the road can be opened at set times when work has ceased to allow vehicles to access the road.” 

The council is also worried about how the works will affect local farmers with combine harvesters and haymaking, as well as holidaymakers staying in caravans at local campsites, since alternate routes are unsuitable.
