A FORMER headteacher who has been to Poland for the third time to deliver aid to Ukrainian refugees wants to thank the generous Stroud community for all their help.
Ian Mudge – a former headteacher turned handyman – has now made his third journey across Europe to Poland to give aid collected by the Stroud community.
In the recent trip Mr Mudge went to Szczecin, Poland, delivering 
There, Mr Mudge witnessed first-hand the impact which the aid has had on the community.
Aid delivered to the refugees include soap, toothbrush and paste, small games, colouring books and bracelets.
Over £1,000 worth of women’s shoes were taken to Poland - the charity which Mr Mudge has been liaising with said that many of the women they were supporting had ‘worn their shoes out escaping the war’.
Over 100 shoe boxes which school pupils at Archway and Stroud High School made for Ukrainian children were also delivered.
Aid for this trip was collected from across Stroud, including by France Lynch scout troop, staff at Waitrose, pupils at Archway and Stroud High School.
"The three trips have only been made possible with the support and help of the wider community in Stroud," said Mr Mudge.
“What we have achieved together really is something special.
“As part of the aid, we were able to give a shoe box as a present to a 6-year-old refugee - her smile speaks volumes.
"I am just very grateful to everyone who has contributed.
"These trips have far exceeded my expectations.
"The charity in Poland have told me how much the aid they hace received has meant to them and the refugees that they are supporting.
“I would like to thank everyone at France Lynch scouts, Waitrose, Archway, Stroud High, Batemans and Sports Direct for their help.
“I would also like to thank Bailey’s Paints for allowing one of their staff, Jay Whiting, the time to accompany me.
"Finally, I would like to say a special thank you to Kate and Dale Vince who generously funded this trip.”
