I am deeply concerned about the divisive tone of many letters concerning those who make medical choices for their own bodies and circumstances with the increasingly strong language of moral obligation and assumed selfishness.
I am also appalled that reports say the hospitals are full of unvaccinated people denying others the surgical treatment they so badly need which understandably fuels these unkind views.
On investigation, the UK Office of National Statistics shows that the beds (in Jan 2022) are occupied by mostly double vaccinated patients with smaller numbers of single, triple and no dose cases. Further research shows that the definition of an Unvaccinated person is not what I assumed and I suspect your readers will be equally shocked.
An Unvaccinated person is currently anyone who has had a single, double or no injection AND, one who has had the booster, within the last 14 days.
A vaccinated person is defined as having had the third injection and a period of 14 days has elapsed.
Indeed, in early Jan 2022, there was a news report with Boris Johnson stating that the ‘hospitals are full of the unboosted’.
This definition is found in the UK, USA and many other countries.
I have been following the statistics as best I can, but they seem to be able to say whatever you want them to say, and when the definitions are also unknown, this makes for more confusion and informed consent becomes impossible. Perhaps there should be a Glossary of definitions to help us all to be more compassionate and caring at a time of intense worry and concern?
