Over the last fortnight our readers have been nominating the top 10 takeaways in Stroud, and for the next week we’ll be profiling each of them so you can choose the Stroud News & Journal Best Takeaway 2021 winner.
The second takeaway we’re showcasing is the Chalford Chippy, which opened last year in the Old Neighbourhood on Chalford Hill.
After lockdown restrictions left the wet-led pub largely unable to trade, owner Jonathan Armstrong decided to diversify and start selling takeaway food last year.
Jonathan and the team now offer classic fish and chips, pizzas, burgers and pies.
“At the moment it’s what’s keeping the wolf from the door. Although it doesn’t cover all our bills, it does make a difference,” said Jonathan, who lives above the pub.
On finding out he had been nominated, he said: “It’s brilliant. Especially being such a new venture. It’s really positive that the community is supporting us so well and likes what we do.”
“If we won we’d be over the moon, especially because my daughter’s the chef so I think she’d be chuffed to get some recognition.”
If you think the Chalford Chippy should be crowned the best takeaway in Stroud, you can vote for them using the voting coupon in this week’s paper (Wednesday, February 24).
Then simply post the coupon to: Stroud News & Journal Best Takeaway, Redhill House, 227 London Road, Worcester WR5 2JG.

Voting ends on March 7, 2021.
