Over the last fortnight our readers have been nominating the top 10 takeaways in Stroud, and for the next week we’ll be profiling each of them so you can choose the Stroud News & Journal Best Takeaway 2021 winner.
Kicking off the week is Thai 2 Go, which opened in Five Valleys Indoor Market last July and has been a hit with Stroud residents ever since.
Husband and wife Ian and Sudjai Calvert have been running the shop with the help of their daughter Lily, serving up traditional Thai dishes that include Thai red curry, Pad Thai, spring rolls, beef dishes, rice dishes pork satay and stir fry.
After finding out they had made the top 10 in our competition, Ian said: “It means absolutely everything for a business that’s only been here six months.
“I would be over the moon if we won, we wouldn’t be able to thank people enough. That would be unbelievable.”
The couple bought the space next to next to Callaghin’s Kitchen in the shopping centre in January, 2020 but due to the pandemic were unable to open until six months later.
Coronavirus restrictions also meant they had to close Thai 2 Go’s eat-in seating area, making takeaway’s even more vital to the business.
“It’s very important, in fact that’s all we do at the moment. Even when there was seating the majority of our business is takeaway.”
If you think Thai 2 Go should be crowned the best takeaway in Stroud, you can vote for them using the voting coupon in this week’s paper (Wednesday, February 24).
