More than 82 million households tuned in to watch Bridgerton in its first month on Netflix, but did you know you were watching Simon Basset and Daphne Birdgerton walk around a Gloucestershire estate?
The interior of Badminton House, near Chipping Sodbury, is the set for Simon and Daphne’s house - played by Regé-Jean Page - despite the exterior being Castle Howard in York.
Portions of the estate served as parts of the Duke and Lady Danbury’s homes and the inside of the Foundling Hospital.
For those who haven’t seen the show yet, Bridgerton is a witty, romantic drama about eight siblings looking for love and happiness in regency-era London, inspired by Julia Quinn's bestselling novels.
You can only visit the gardens of Bridgerton’s Badminton House on one day a year because the Duke and Duchess of Beaufort still live there.
The estate is located 20 minutes from Highgrove House, where Prince Charles and Camila live.
It has been worked on by famous architects and landscape designers, including William Kent, James Gibbs, Charles Bridgeman and “Capability” Brown.
According to the estate’s website, Charles II has stayed in the house and William of Orange returned there from the Battle of the Boyne.
Queen Mary the wife of George V was a guest of her niece, the Duchess of Beaufort, at Badminton for much of World War II.
The present Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh have also visited for the annual Horse Trials.
