The Mayor of Nailsworth, Jonathan Duckworth has hit out at the 'appalling driving' he witnessed during yesterday's storm.

Cllr Duckworth said the waves caused by drivers caused more damage than the floods did, but also praised those who have offered to help in the clean-up effort.

He said: "We have a number of shops and restaurants that have been badly affected, and also homes flooded.

"People have been reporting blocked drains and a lot of rubble and silt on roads and pavements.

"The community has come together to help those affected and many people are offering time and skills.

"One devastating thing to see, and I saw this first-hand yesterday, was some appalling driving during the storm.

"The bow waves from some drivers caused more hurt and damage than the floods did in the first place.

"Terribly selfish behaviour, inexcusable. Please, if you are driving in flood water, think of others."

The mayor also said that Nailsworth Town Council would be checking on businesses today to see if they are able to help financially.
