Nailsworth business owners have appealed for help after last night's flood left shops in the town centre underwater.

There have been calls for sandbags and dehumidifiers following the storm in which many shops were damaged.

Sarah Martin, treasurer for Nailsworth Chamber of Trade & Commerce, said in a Facebook post: "Nailsworth is suffering a devastating flood. A majority of ours shops are under water, causing damage to their buildings and their stock.

"At present they are unsure as to whether they will be able to salvage anything. This is a devastating blow to the town, they have worked so hard to update their shops while being shut for the last three months due to the pandemic and have only just opened to welcome the public back.

"Flood damage is going to put an enormous financial burden on those who are unfortunate enough to be affected by it. The water damage to the properties and the stock is going to cause thousands of pounds of debt. Which are traders are not going to be able to shoulder.

"So I am asking the town of Nailsworth to join together in raising money to help are traders who have been very sadly affected."

Nailsworth Computer Shop posted on Facebook: "Our shop was under this for a while, we was very lucky as we only had minor damage.

"But our heart goes out to The Olive Tree that took a bit hit sadly, along with many of our other neighbours, but the amount of people that turned up to help clear up was amazing."

"Paddy Clatworthy, joint owner of The Olive Tree said in a Facebook post there was an urgent need for dehumidifiers.
