A former Stroud college student will be doing a sponsored head shave for charity.

Alex Maceachern is taking part in the challenge to raise money for the Cheltenham Open Door charity and to donate the hair to the Little Princess Trust.

Alex said: "Both charities are so important as, at the moment, we've been told to stay home as much as possible to save lives, but not everyone has the luxury of having a home to stay in."

Cheltenham Open Door is a charity that provides food, friendship and support to relieve poverty, hardship and distress.

The Little Princess Trust supplies wigs for children and young people who have lost their hair due to severe illness.

Alex said: "My mother had cancer twice, the second time having chemotherapy and losing all her hair, but seeing how her confidence grew through having a wig was just beautiful.

"My hair will grow back again but some children and young adults have illnesses that mean they can never grow hair again."

She added: "And having spent time with those who attend Cheltenham Open Door's services, I can tell you first hand that they are just like you and me.

"They are humans who want safety, security, food, and somewhere warm to sleep at night.

"It's not a lot to ask for and yet these people go without. We're all a few simple mistakes away from being in their position, so please help me raise money for this wonderful charity who help these people in need."

Alex will be streaming the event live on her Instagram page (alexmac.creation) and her Facebook page in July.
