Vue Cinema in Stroud has been named as one of the most expensive cinemas in the UK.

According to research by mobile communications company TextLocal who analysed prices from across the UK, the cinema in Stroud ranks as the fifth most expensive.

On average, cinema-goers in Stroud will pay £12.52 for their tickets in 2020, with nearby Cheltenham coming out on top at £13.73.

Acccording to TextLocal, the overall cost of visiting the cinema has risen by 22 percent over the last 10 years.

With the added extras of refreshments, a trip to the cinema in Stroud can end up costing much more than buying the film through online streaming, as TextLocal reveals the change in demand for online and streaming services and the decline of the cinema.

In 2019, Brit's visited the cinema an average of three times each with 176 million visits in total.

But, across the country 19.1 million people are signed up to subscription video-on-demand services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Now TV.

A third of households are using Netflix only and 6.6 million streaming are from their smartphone.

The introduction of Netflix and online streaming platforms saw the footfall of UK cinemas decline, and they have continued to at a steady pace.

Last year Brits spent almost two percent less on watching the latest films in cinemas, meaning revenue for multiplexes has been affected.
