THIRTY-two members of Team Neale will be running the Stroud Half Marathon on Sunday in memory of family member Glynis Neale who sadly passed away from Motor Neurone Disease in April of this year.
Shane Hampton-Neale, who is Glynis’s son-in-law, says the family are looking forward to the impact that the race will have.
“Participating in the marathon really gives the family comfort,” he said.
“It helps to give us some direction, and to raise money and get donations so that one day there can be a cure.
“Hopefully raising the money can contribute so that in the future others won’t have to go through this terrible disease.”
Since April the family have already raised £2472 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) after organising a cake sale, as well as raising £1818 when the family hosted a pig racing event.
The target for Sunday’s half marathon is £5000, with the family currently at £2912, and they are looking to have raised £10,000 by the end of the year.
Glynis’s daughter Clare and son Paul will both be running as part of Team Neale on Sunday.
Her other son Andrew will be providing support to the family at the event, along with his wife Kerry and Paul’s fiancé Amy.
Shane will also be cycling around the route to provide support and supplements to his team.
The family will have a base at Marling field with four stops around the course, including at the Neale’s family home in Stonehouse, where Glynis’s husband Pete will also be providing support.
They will be wearing MNDA vests which will be sponsored by Hogg and Smith Heating and Plumbing.
