STROUD MP David Drew met with WASPI group members (Women Against State Pension Inequality) yesterday in Westminster after the loss of a key High Court ruling.
The campaigners have vowed to fight on after losing the landmark court battle against state pension age rise for more than 3million women after the case was dismissed on October 3.
David Drew said: "I joined the WASPI team at their parliamentary drop-in event to discuss the way forward for achieving pension fairness for women born in the 1950s.
"Following last week's disappointing court ruling, the team outlined their plans to reopen the maladministration cases with the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman.
"WASPI (Women Against State Pension Inequality) is a campaign group working on behalf of 3.8 million women, born in the 1950s, who were affected by changes to their State Pension age, implemented in the 1995 and 2011 Pensions Act.
"Some WASPI women had less than one year’s notice to prepare for a six-year change in the pension age and many did not receive any letter from the Department for Work and Pensions.
"The impact has been devastating, with many women facing huge financial difficulties as a result.
"There are around 7,000 women affected by changes to the State Pension age here in Stroud constituency and around 600 women and their families attended my briefing session last year, so I know how much this affects families here.
"I will continue to support the campaign for pension fairness and raised this in Parliament when I said how disappointed I am that the Queen's Speech failed to address the WASPI injustice."
David Drew will be attending to the Stroud Waspi group meeting on Thursday, October 24 at 7pm in Sainsbury's café, Dudbridge.
