QUEDGELEY Library is hosting an imaginative display that recreates scenes from a children’s poetry book by an award-winning author.
It follows a visit by Joseph Coelho to Tewkesbury Library in August as part of his marathon tour across the UK.
He is aiming to join a library in every region of the UK – 209 libraries in total - to publicise what fantastic places libraries are and to encourage people to join them.
Scenes from his children’s poetry book published in January, called A Year of Nature Poems, were recreated at Tewkesbury Library to mark his visit as a surprise for the author.
It meant he had to walk through scenes as they are depicted in his own book from January to August – which he described on social media at the time as a ‘delightful surprise and a brilliant display’.
They included starlings hanging from the ceiling, a pond filled with frogs, a wobbly display of jellyfish and even a balcony scene complete with rain, that were put together by volunteers, customers and staff.
The initiative was also supported by local businesses, including a florist and bookshop.
Quedgeley Library has now taken over the display and new sections have been added for September and October for the public to see.
Cllr Dave Norman, Gloucestershire County Council’s cabinet member for libraries, said: “This brilliant display was very popular at Tewkesbury Library and I’m delighted it’s now at Quedgeley Library so even more people can visit and see it.
"This initiative highlights the inspired work by Gloucestershire Libraries to encourage more people to visit.”
