Farmer's Market news with Gerb Gerbrands
The market provides us with quality produce across all the food categories and our bakers are no exception. Every week we have Stroud based Salt Bakehouse and The Artisan Baker and Hobbs House Bakery from Chipping Sodbury.
Hobbs House is the oldest of these, starting the bakery in the 1920s, they are a true family business with five generations of baking experience, and they are now bringing up the sixth generation of aspiring bakers! At one time their range was entirely organic but, in an effort to keep prices down and reach more customers, they now bake both organic and non-organic. Hobbs have a fabulous online shop offering all their breads and some very nice bread boxes and have their shop in Nailsworth.
The Artisan Baker started at the market about three years ago.
This is a micro bakery with Ori (pictured) running the whole bakery operation.
Originally from Israel, having managed a local restaurant in Jerusalem in his early 20s, Ori went on to graduate from the prestigious French cookery school, Le Cordon Bleu.
He then joined a fine dining restaurant in London. Ori relocated in 2012, opening The Artisan Baker in Stroud.
Salt Bakehouse joined the market a little over a year ago and have proved an instant hit with their magnificent range of breads, baked in Stonehouse. Once again this is a true family business with mum, son and daughter forming the core team.
Each of these bakeries has their own style and we are lucky to have such a great selection!
