MP for Stroud District David Drew has revealed he is to undergo surgery he has been putting off for over a month due to Brexit.
Mr Drew has been suffering from Glaucoma in both eyes since the turn of the year and told followers on his Facebook page that he would now have to undergo surgery, having previously cancelled the operation due to Brexit negotiations.
On Facebook he posted: "I was supposed to have an operation last month but postponed it because of Brexit. I now cannot put it off any longer and will be undergoing surgery."
The operation will be taking place on Wednesday, April 10, just two days before the UK is set to leave the EU without a deal.
"Although a relatively minor procedure, it does mean that I will be out of action for a few weeks, - we are not yet sure exactly how long," he continued.
"If you require any support during that time, please contact my office on 01453 755 234 or my caseworkers on 01453 765 484 and my team will try to help."
Glaucoma is an eye condition where the optic nerve is damaged by the pressure of the fluid inside the eye.
