Lanes one and two are being opened on the M5 northbound after a Woman has died in a three-car crash junction 5 and junction 4A.
Entry to the motorway from junction 6, Worcester North remains closed.
The accident happened at 5.40 this morning and also involved a 4x4.
Ambulance staff found a car that had suffered considerable damage.
An off duty paramedic and bystanders were trying to assist the car driver but nothing could be done and she was confirmed dead at the scene.
Entry to the motorway from junction 6, Worcester North, has also been closed for safety reasons.
Two men who were in the 4x4 were assessed and discharged at the scene.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service statement read:
"A woman has died after a collision between a car and a 4x4.
"It happened at around 5.40am on the M5 northbound between junctions 5 and 4a, near Bromsgrove.
"Two ambulances, two paramedic officers and the merit trauma doctor and critical care paramedic were sent to the scene.
Police are appealing for anyone who saw the crash or has dashcam footage to get in touch. Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting incident 40S of April 3.
Chief Superintendent Tom Harding said: "We appreciate this is causing disruption for the morning motorists and we would ask that they please be patient and bear with us while we deal with the incident.
"As I'm sure the public can understand, we are in the process of investigating a serious collision. This will require a detailed investigation which may take a number of hours to complete.
"We are working with partners to ensure the road is open as soon as possible and are doing all we can to minimise closure times. We are also sending officers to the surrounding areas to ensure those who may be caught up in the traffic can be on their way as soon as possible.
"We would like to thank everyone for their support and understanding at this time."
Diversions are in place and closures are expected to be in place until around midday.
