GREEN-FINGERED growers of all ages and persuasions flocked to the seventh annual Stroud Potato Day on Saturday.
Hundreds for shoppers popped into Merrywalks Shopping Centre throughout the market morning to peruse, buy and celebrate the humble spud in all its glory.
Dozens of stalls showcased potatoes of all different varieties and sizes – and there was even Lemon Drizzle Cake made with potatoes available to sample.
The event, organised by Transition Stroud and Down to Earth, was aimed at encouraging more people to grow their own food, starting with potatoes.
Farmers and gardeners alike bought batches of seeds, while potato experts were on hand to give advice and information on how to grow the perfect spud.
Some of the most popular varieties on offer on the day were King Edwards, Desiree, International Kidney and the knobbly Pink Fir Apple.
Sales of the official Stroud Potato Day Recipe Book were also through the roof.
This piece of literature, originally released in 2011, features 40 recipes from local people and restaurants - plus nutritional advice regarding potatoes and folklore.
