A PUB in Stroud which opened just two weeks ago has closed already.

The Bowbridge Lock in London Road had a busy opening over the Easter weekend.

But a statement from the canal-side pub on Facebook says: “Sad to announce that we are now closed and it is terminal.

“Further statement to follow.”

Karen Davis and partner Malcolm Shipp had rented the pub formerly called The British Oak and reinvented it as the The Bowbridge Lock.

It was named after the recently restored lock on the canal behind the building.

Yesterday a statement on Facebook said the pub was closed for the day but gave no indication that it would be permanent.

The post said: "Due to unforeseen circumstances we are closed today.

"Apologies for any inconvenience."

The SNJ has been in touch with the leaseholders of the building and we are waiting to hear their side of the story.
