STROUD and Stonehouse Round Table has donated £8,000 to charity in memory of loyal member Richard ‘Dolly’ Watson, who died earlier this year.

The money was split between the Cotswold Care Hospice, Frampton on Severn Sailing Club and Brain Tumour Support.

A cheque presentation was held at the hospice, which cared for Mr Watson, who developed a brain tumour and sadly died in May aged just 64.

Mr Watson, from Stonehouse, was one of the first members of the Round Table branch, which was formed in the late 1970s.

He continued as a member of the Stonehouse 41 Club, the association for ex-Round Table members.

Because of his joyful approach to life and kindness, Mr Watson was well-known in the area. He was given his unusual nickname as a small boy because he looked like a doll and it stuck all his life with his grandchildren calling him ‘grandoll’.

The money was raised through various events including the Frampton 10K and all three causes were close to his heart.

He loved sailing and the money donated to the sailing club will make a major contribution to a buying a boat to be called Dolly which will allow people of all abilities take to the water to enjoy sailing.

Mr Watson owned GR Watson builders, which was founded by his father and is now run by his son Chris.
