PART of the ceiling of the Co-op store in Slad Road, Stroud caved in during today's freak hailstorm.
The shop was closed as staff tended to bits of fallen ceiling on the floor.
Rain and hailstones battered Stroud in a five minute storm, clogging up drains and flooding some roads.
Traffic was forced to slow down on Slad Road as drains could not cope with the amount of surface water..
Slad Road resident David Wilson-Copp cleared the drains outside his home as flood waters began rising to the pavement level.
“Today’s flood, which was very alarming, was to do with leaves blocking up the drains and it happened very quickly.
"We are in the lowest part of the road which is easily flooded so the drains need to be cleared to cope,” added Mr Wilson-Copp.
