UNDERSTANDING dementia and living with the condition is at the heart of an awareness drop-in at the county council’s Bishops Cleeve library tomorrow, Tuesday, October 7.
The awareness session from 2pm until 3pm at Bishops Cleeve library, Tobyfield Road, Cheltenham, GL52 8NN, has been organised by the library service in partnership with Fair Shares.
Visitors will find out about people living with dementia, and discover that there is more to the person than their condition. Further information will also be made available at the library throughout the week.
Councillor Dorcas Binns, cabinet member for older people, said: “Dementia is just one condition that affects people in our community, but it’s something that is close to many people’s hearts.
"I would encourage anyone in the area to take this opportunity to find out more and get some support.”
The event is one of many being organised by the county council to raise awareness of activities available to help older people stay well, healthy, meet people and try new things.
Gloucestershire ‘Full of Life Pop-up Shops’ will be touring throughout October to local shopping centres and market places.
Cllr Binns added: “Our Full of Life our campaign will offer people a wide range of activities and information which we hope will benefit older people, helping them to stay healthy, active and try new things. Don’t forget to find out when we are in your area.”
Cabinet member for libraries Cllr Andrew Gravells said: “Libraries are a great place to pick up a book, brush up on your computer skills or simply spend a few hours reading in a nice, relaxed atmosphere, but they are also used for many important events such as this one.
“I hope lots of people come along to make use of the facilities and learn more about dementia. They might be surprised at how much important information is available to them.”
