A DRIVER has been released on police bail after a woman was hit by a refuse lorry and killed in The Shambles in Worcester.
The man, who is employed by Eastington-based firm Smith's Waste Management of Gloucestershire, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of death by dangerous driving which West Mercia Police explained was often the procedure following fatal road traffic collisions.
He has been released on police bail and specialist officers are investigating the exact circumstances prior to the collision and continue to appeal for witnesses.
Several eyewitnesses needed treatment from ambulance staff for shock while others were left in tears following the incident outside Argos at 9.15am yesterday, Monday.
The 69-year-old woman, who has not yet been named, was pronounced dead at the scene.
