1. If American actor James Dean was still alive he would be the grand old age of 83. Sadly the Rebel Without a Cause star died on this date 59 years ago in a car accident in California at the age of 24.
2. In the lead up to the anniversary of the Paddington Railway disaster on October, 5, we have been remembering the victims and especially the ones who lost their lives. A total of 31 people were killed in the 1999 crash.
3. A third of people aged over 65 in the UK are unfamiliar with the most common types of fraud, new research revealed today. The number of over 65s who believe they have been victims of fraud is an astounding three million.
4. You might not know but this week is Ageing Safely Week which will run through until Sunday and Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service is urging people to do their bit by checking smoke alarms for older neighbours.
5. The curtains have come down on one of Cheltenham’s most iconic buildings. Bulldozes have started removing the Odeon to make way for a new complex of flats and shops in Winchcombe Street.
