Stroud MP Neil Carmichael recently visited successful engineering firm TJW Precision Engineering Ltd at their site in Cam to see the importance of local supply chains in action.
TJW Precision Engineering is a supplier of precision components to international aerospace company Airbus, manufacturing parts for their successful A320. During the visit Neil Carmichael MP was shown around by Managing Director Gary Cowle and Chairman Steve Hayes. The company employs around 60 staff at its site on the Draycott Industrial Estate, Cam, where it moved into a new building in 2011.
During the visit Mr Cowle and Mr Hayes explained the difficulties they face in recruiting a skilled workforce, echoing the sentiments of the manufacturing and engineering sector throughout the UK.
Neil Carmichael MP said: “The growth in aviation in recent years has produced huge opportunities for businesses to supply aeroplane manufacturers, and TJW Precision Engineering has certainly benefited through their relationship with Airbus.
“Economic growth in the Valleys and Vale is inextricably linked with the performance of these large industries, and I am delighted that Cam in particular is doing so well as a result.”
Airbus is a supporter of the Stroud Festival of Manufacturing and Engineering, which Neil Carmichael MP founded and runs, and is taking place between 24th and 29th November this year.
