NAILSWORTH Youth Club and St Mary’s Church in Frampton on Severn have both been awarded grants from Gloucestershire Environmental Trust.

The youth club has received £3,000 to help with refurbishment works, including the installation of new gas boilers and heaters, while St Mary’s Church has been given £5,000 for a new disabled toilet and kitchen.

In total, trustees at Gloucestershire Environmental Trust have allocated over £506,000 worth of funding to local community projects in August, bringing the total amount of grants allocated in 2014 to more than £750,000.

Any Gloucestershire-based community or charitable organisation can apply to the trust to fund a project they are working on.

It strongly welcomes applications from those living in less advantaged communities, in urban or very rural areas, where a reduction in public community funding may have had the greatest impact.

The trust also said it wanted to see more applications for the funding of biodiversity, nature conservation and landscape projects.

Stephen Owen, chairman of the trustees, said: “We are delighted to have been able to provide funding for such a diverse and worthwhile set of community projects.

“Since the trust was set up in September 1997, we have given over £13 million to projects in Gloucestershire.

“During the next few years the trust expects to further distribute over £1 million per year of the Landfill Tax Community Fund, thanks to the generous support of Cory Environmental Services.”
