AFTER being found on the towpath by the canal at Dudbridge, the grenade was moved to Marling School playing field, where the controlled explosion was carried out.
The controlled explosion was carried out by experts from the Royal Logistic Corps at 1.50pm and could be heard in the centre of Stroud.
SNJ reporter Hayley Mortimer was just yards from the scene.
"The blast was deafening, you could feel a huge rumble from the force of the blast," she said.
"An acrid smell lingered in the air afterwards."
