TWO residents have been convicted of noise disturbance at Cheltenham Magistrates Court.

In the first case, Mr Ivan Wood pleaded guilty to causing unreasonable noise within a flat at Rangers Avenue in Dursley on Saturday, April 13.

The noise was the result of the playing of very loud music and/or computer games into the early hours of the morning such that a resident of another flat was unable to sleep.

District Judge Brown imposed a £110 fine, a £20 victim surcharge and £365 costs.

In the second case, Ms Andrea Perrett pleaded guilty to allowing at least seven dogs at her property in Alderley, near Wotton-under-Edge, to bark, whine and whimper to such an extent that neighbours were unreasonably disturbed.

Prolonged and extremely disturbing dog barking was witnessed by council officers as early as 5.20 am.

District Judge Brown imposed a £70 fine, a £20 victim surcharge and £400 costs.

Stroud District Council’s environmental protection manager, Robert Weaver, said: “We take the issuing of noise abatement notices extremely seriously.

“When we serve such a notice it is vital that the recipient takes all necessary steps to ensure that the noise nuisance is not repeated.

"If perpetrators refuse to comply, then we will take the matter to the courts.”
