Nailsworth Arts festival is taking place at St George's Church on Friday, September 6 until Sunday, September 8.  Featuring local artistic talent in a variety of media – all proceeds will go to the Cotswold Care Hospice. There will be a preview evening on the Friday. Preview tickets are £7.50 to include wine and canapés and are available from Shiny Goodness and Cotswold Care Hospice. The exhibition on September 7 and 8 is open from 10am until 5pm and is £2.50 on the door. Under 16s go free.

Hobbs Bakery is currently hosting an art exhibition by Amanda Bradbury until September 23.

The Weaving Shed at Gigg Mill, Nailsworth (GL6 0JF) will be open from 10am to noon on Saturday, September 7. 

Visitors can try their hands at weaving a pattern as well as seeing demonstrations of the flying shuttle and a power loom.

Allow 45 minutes for the visit, £3 for adults. 

The Mill Centre at Dunkirk Mill will be open 2pm to 4pm with demonstrations of Victorian textile machinery, some driven by a large water wheel.

See how the finish on a fine Stroud scarlet cloth was produced. Parking for the disabled at the mill otherwise please walk along the cycle track from Nailsworth (GL5 5HH), £3 for adults. Allow 30 minutes for the visit.

Dunkirk Mill Centre is also open on Sunday, September 8 from 2 to 4pm.

Jayne Morris will be demonstrating ‘Gardening Versus Floristry' for Nailsworth & District Flower Arrangement Society on Wednesday, September 4.  There will be two competitions on the night:  Class 1: ‘Nature’s Garden’; Class 2: ‘Spice of Life’.

Box Garden Club are holding their Village Produce Show on Sunday, September 8 from 3pm, and on Tuesday, September 17, John Crowther will be speaking to the club about the ‘Help a Hedgehog Hospital’ in Brimscombe. 

This is a small, not for profit organisation specialising in the recue, rehabilitation and release of hedgehogs back to the wild.

Nailsworth Tennis Club is holding a fundraising barn dance at 7.30pm on Saturday, September 14 at the Nailsworth Sub Rooms.

On Thursday, September 26 there will be a ramble for members of the Nailsworth Society. 

Meet outside the library at 9.30am for a drive to The Royal William near Cranham. 

The walk will be five miles, taking in parts of the Cotswold Way, Coopers Hill, Buckholt Wood and Cranham Common. Some steep sections, muddy in places and two optional stiles.

Autumn at the Arkell Centre

As the holidays draw to a close and nights begin to draw in, the Arkell Centre gears up to an exciting autumn of activities - with established favourites resuming, and new activities starting.

The Nailsworth Health Partnership continues with its quest to keep you fit and healthy, with weekly Gentle Exercise sessions for older residents every Monday between 10am and noon, re-starting Monday, September 2. Contact Marilyn Miles 01453 832974.

CAB drop-in advice sessions take place every Tuesday from 1pm to 3.30pm and the Stroud Valleys Credit Union meets on Wednesdays between 2.30pm and 4pm.

Walking for Health ticks all the boxes; physical, mental and social.  These led walks take place in Nailsworth at 2pm each Tuesday departing from the library. Everyone is welcome; you may even like to consider training as a walk leader to help this ever growing group of folk expand their repertoire. The Monday Pacerpole 1 - 11⁄2 hour walk for posture will change to 6pm from Monday, September 2 and it will change again to 2pm for the winter on Monday, September 30.  Other walks can be arranged as and when required.
