THIS year's Bisley Fete and Flower Show will be opened by someone who truly embodies the milk of human kindness.

Much-loved former milkman Norman Banyard, who grew up in the village, retired earlier this year after making deliveries and checking up on vulnerable customers for four decades.

Norman will arrive at the fete and flower show, held in a field off Cheltenham Road, with flower queen Sashi Bush and attendants Lydia Coysh, Polly Young and Charlie Trinder just before 2pm on Saturday.

Organisers are hoping for a bumper number of entries, including vegetables, fruit, blooms, home baking and preserves.

“This year’s weather got off to a challenging start but the summer has been quite kind to gardeners so we are hoping that lots of people will take part,” said chairman Caroline Stephen.

Meanwhile the fete promises something for all the family.

Avening Silver Band will add a swing to the proceedings as visitors enjoy competitions, stalls and games.

There will be a superheroes-themed fancy dress competition, a pet show and stalls including bric-a-brac, books, plants, cakes and toys.

A luxury raffle promises a range of prizes, including a meal for two at Les Deux Salons in London, a Chadwick Oven for cooking pizzas, a meal for two at the Foston’s Ash pub and two signed copies of the new Fabulous Baker Brothers book.

And there will be plenty of sideshows to entertain children and adults alike.

The fete is the main fundraiser towards the upkeep of All Saints Church in Bisley.

Organiser Peter Thorp said: “It’s one of the highlights in our village calendar and something we are delighted to share with people from all over the area."
