CHRISTIAN Comment with Steve Woodcock of the Petra Christian Fellowship

I have just dropped my phone and smashed the screen, a few days ago my car ground to a halt with a shudder and a bang, the garage haven’t called me yet and I’m kidding myself that 'no news is good news'.

My eldest daughter got married on Saturday and along with all the emotional turmoil and tears (mostly mine) I reaped the rewards of my offer to ‘take care of the catering’ – I was formerly a chef and have catered for scores of weddings, but I am now a church pastor and I think that I forgot that I no longer have access to a professional kitchen!

So I had to start preparing a banquet for 140 people in the confines of my domestic kitchen.
All the above serves as a comment by a Christian in the midst of a regular life.

During the last few days (because of my delicate emotional state) I have thought deeply about life.

I have been a Christian for about 30 years and such things as smashed phones and broken cars are utterly trivial compared to the serious things that life throws at you.

The act of becoming a Christian – which for me went something like this “Jesus, I’m sorry for the wreck that I’ve made of my life and the things I have done to offend you, please forgive me.

"I now choose to follow you, please continue to help me as I continue to mess up” - changed everything.

Upon uttering that prayer a sense of peace entered my life that has never left me, the Bible calls it 'the peace of God that passes all understanding' and it is there for anyone who calls out to Jesus.

It’s the sort of peace that can handle life in all its complexity.
