THREE friends have organised a concert and silent auction at the Cotswold Playhouse in Stroud this weekend to raise money for Cancer Research UK.
The event, which is taking place this Saturday (August 24), has been arranged by James Murray, of Murray’s Estate Agents, James Evans and Ross Williams, who plan to scale Mount Kilimanjaro in aid of the charity later this year.
According to the trio, the ‘Climb for Cancer Concert’ will showcase some of the Cotswold Players’ finest singers, dancers and comedy acts.
The evening is just one in a series of fundraising events the three friends have planned to generate revenue for the cancer-fighting charity.
As another charity, the Oxford-based Silver Lining group, is covering the costs of the October climb, including travel fares, all money raised by the trio will go directly to Cancer Research UK.
Ross Williams, who sustained a serious brain injury following an accident nineteen years ago, is a member of the Silver Lining charity, which helps people with brain injuries pursue their dreams and ambitions.
In the quest to fulfil his dream of conquering Mount Kilimanjaro, he will also be raising money for a cause close to his heart after he lost his mum to cancer when he was only young.
Although his two friends are taking part in the expedition to help Ross achieve his ambition, they both have their own reasons for wanting to raise awareness and money for Cancer Research UK.
James Murray lost both his parents to cancer, while James Evans has also lost family members and friends to the disease.
