WYCLIFFE College achieved another excellent set of A-level results – with A*s or As making up a third of all grades.


Riding enthusiast Rachel Lade was the talk of the school after achieving 100 per cent in her English literature exam and coursework.


Her A* in the subject coupled with her A in history and C in chemistry helped her secure a place at the University of Exeter to study ancient and modern history.


"I am so happy that I got into Exeter and my English literature result is just unbelievable," said Rachel, who is taking a gap year in order to focus on riding and to spend more time with her horse Barty.


Budding journalist Louisa Keefe, who lives in Tetbury, was beaming while opening her results after receiving a tweet from the University of Portsmouth earlier in the morning confirming her place.


Louisa’s B in English, C in geography and D in German was more than enough to secure her place at her first choice university studying Journalism.


Ninety-five per cent of Wycliffe pupils got a place at their university of choice. 


Sean Dunne, deputy head (academic), said: "This year group was the broadest ability range we have ever had at Wycliffe and we are absolutely thrilled with our pupils nearly all of whom have achieved what they needed to move forward with their chosen career path."


The high achievements at Wycliffe ranged from cricket ace Tom Shrewsbury who achieved a double distinction in his BTEC sport the same year that he made his debut for Gloucestershire.


Whilst head of school, Harry Ryder, from Wotton-under-Edge, heads to Durham University next month to study ancient civilisation and archaeology after achieving As in economics and history and an A* in English literature.
