MARTYN Snow has been appointed as the new Bishop of Tewkesbury.
The role of the Bishop of Tewkesbury actually covers the whole of Gloucestershire and beyond and in practice Bishop Martyn will act as the assistant bishop for Gloucestershire, working alongside the Bishop of Gloucester, the Rt Rev Michael Perham.
Bishop Martyn, 45, who has born in Indonesia and worked as a Vicar in West Africa, will be ordained and consecrated as a bishop by the Archbishop of Canterbury on Wednesday, September at 25 at Westminster Abbey.
He will also have an official service of welcome in the diocese on Saturday, October 12 in Gloucester Cathedral.
Martyn, who has three children and is married to Lynn, said: "I'm hugely looking forward to getting to know the people and places of Gloucester diocese.
"I'm also looking forward to learning about what it means to be a bishop at a time of great change in the church and I am particularly interested in helping the church to engage confidently with the many issues faced by local communities and the wider society.
"I am convinced of the importance of partnership, both between churches and between the church and other voluntary, community and faith groups."
