THOUSANDS of young people in Gloucestershire are eagerly awaiting picking up their A and AS Level results tomorrow, Thursday.

About 6,000 young people in the county sat A or AS Levels this summer.

Help is at hand for those unsure of the next step, whether your results are better than expected or not what you had hoped for.

School staff will be the first line of help and support, and even if your results do not quite meet requirements, your university or college may still offer you a place.

If not, the UCAS Clearing service found university and college places for 52,570 people nationally last year.

Lists of courses with vacancies available will appear on www.ucas.com and in the media.

The Youth Support Team is also available to offer support about the options available to young people after receiving their A-level and GCSE results.

You can call the results day helpline on 01452 426900 or e-mail info.glos@prospects.co.uk for support and advice.

Cllr Paul McLain, cabinet member for children and young people, said: “Regardless of the grades our young people achieve, I’m delighted that there will be plenty of support and advice available to help them shape their futures from a position of strength, whether they decide to go straight into employment, college or university.”

Support will also be available from the Youth Support Team at drop-ins around the county:

Andrew Webster, Prospects information, advice and guidance manager in Gloucestershire, said: “Exam results can change a young person’s possibilities for the future immensely.

Whether they’re lucky enough to have achieved better results than anticipated or concerned because they didn’t get the results required, many young people will be re-evaluating their options.

Finding out where to turn to get help with making or changing decisions on what training, education and ultimately which career to pursue can be daunting for young people.

But the Gloucestershire Youth Support Team is here to help.

Our team of experts provide support and impartial advice to help young people make the best decision for their future.“

If you’re receiving your A Level results, your options include finding an apprenticeship, work based learning, a job or going to university.

Young people who are unsure what to do next year should make contacting Gloucestershire Youth Support a priority.”
