A STROUD-based organisation is among three charities teaming up with Gloucestershire County Council to help problem families turn their lives around.

The Independence Trust is joining forces with Gloucester-based Infobuzz and Cheltenham charity the County Community Project, to provide practical support to families to help them overcome their difficulties.

Interventions will be made under the Families First Programme to help support those families who have parents out of work, children regularly absent from school or family members involved in crime and anti-social behaviour.

The Independence Trust specialises in providing services that improve people’s physical health and mental well-being.It also offers support to parents with drug problems, helping to reduce harm to the family and children.

Jack Beech, of the trust, said: "We will work alongside families and their local communities to reinforce and develop the strengths and aspirations of the whole family."

Paul McClain, GCC’s cabinet member for children and young people and commissioning, added: "The programme we have put together will not only turn lives around, in the long term it will save taxpayers’ money too.

"Local knowledge and support will be key to making it work. We are pleased to be working with such experienced local providers to help deliver."
