STROUD'S worst eyesore, Tricorn House, could be turned into flats, it has been revealed.

Cheltenham-based Summerfield Medical was granted permission to convert the building at the Cainscross roundabout into a care home in 2010.

But managing director Keith Coghill has now revealed that he is no longer going ahead with the project.

This week, Stroud District Council said that the building, which has been derelict for more than a decade, could be converted into flats.

A spokesman said: "It does essentially look like we are back to square one.

"We are disappointed for both the local and wider communities who would like to see this eyesore removed.

"We would like to see the landowners do something proactive to deal with the problem properly and will look at options to see what we can do to move things forward.

"However, in recent months government guidance has changed and now Tricorn House could be turned into flats without the need for planning permission.

"Prospective developers should contact the council's planning service."

Tricorn House was built in the 1970s and was used by the DHSS. It is thought Guernsey-based Millville still owns the building.
