A SPECIAL event was organised by the threatened Painswick Youth Club to boost membership - but not a single youngster turned up.
Youth workers have been trying to increase the number of children attending the club over the last few months.
A meeting in August attracted nearly 25 young people, and it was hoped another earlier this month would be just as successful - but no one went.
However, at Painswick Parish Council on Wednesday, members said they have agreed with leaders to give it one last push.
Another evening is being arranged for December and invitations will be sent to all children who have expressed an interest in joining on previous occasions.
But parish chairman Terry Parker said if this fails, the club will have to close.
"We clearly can't continue like this," he said.
"I think taxpayers will be getting rather upset if we continue to fund a club that is not active or financially viable."
Cllr Martin Slinger said the council must be sure there is not a need for the youth club before it closes it.
"I always have hope," he said.
"Interest in the club goes up and down but we will have to see what happens at the Christmas party and go from there."
Mike Haddock, Gloucestershire County Council's rural youth worker, is currently contracting out staff to different areas.
"I need to be certain about the situation in Painswick before I commit any workers," he said.
"A youth service isn't necessarily what every community needs - in most districts I visit I find young people but this is not true of Painswick."
