WELL-KNOWN Stroud artist Carolyn White and local poet Jehanne Mehta are collaborating on an unusual and exciting project at the Subscription Rooms, opening this weekend, an exhibition entitled Walking Two Ways.
The exhibition is a unique collaboration between two artists deeply rooted in the Stroud landscape.
"Following one of my exhibitions about a year ago Jehanne wrote a poem Here and There honouring our shared love of the Stroud valleys," said Carolyn.
"From that poem the idea was born of a shared show, celebrating the unique qualities of these valleys through colour and word."
This will be a completely new collection of in situ landscapes by Carolyn, interpreting this last brilliant summer and approaching autumn and employing her characteristically vibrant colour and expressive brush and pastel marks.
"Carolyn and I discovered that we both work directly in the landscape - on the hoof as it were, hence our title Walking Two Ways," said Jehanne.
"It's been challenging and interesting word gathering in the valleys for this show, in my case following the seasons round since last year.
"We both have an underlying passion about being in dialogue with the landscape and finding ways to express what it can do for us inwardly."
The paintings and pastels are all for sale. The poems are available as large format, signed prints and in fine letterpress pamphlets by Evergreen Press with a frontispiece by Carolyn.
The book will be reviewed next week.
Walking Two Ways runs in the George Room of Stroud's Subscription Rooms from Saturday, November 18 to December 2.
It is open from10am to 5pm Monday to Saturday.
