PROLIFIC fundraiser Colin Gardner was handed an MBE - from his near neighbour.
The retired 65-year-old, known by many as chairman of Forest Green Rovers, travelled to Buckingham Palace last Thursday to collect his award from fellow Minchinhampton resident Princess Anne.
"She was aware that I was local and it was so nice to meet her," said Mr Gardner, whose donations to various charities over the years has topped the £1 million mark.
With his former business, Gardner Security, doing well during the 1980s Mr Gardner began putting on charity events.
Beneficiaries included the Meningitis Trust and the Spring Centre in Quedgeley, which helps young people with disabilities and learning difficulties.
"I have never been to the Palace before and it was quite nerve racking getting called in," he added.
"Then Princess Anne pins your award on you and I felt very proud to be there.
"I feel that I received the award on behalf of the many people who helped me raise the £1 million."
