What a privilege to meet with you again
You gave me my life
Iris was my birth mother's social worker in 1961.
On a Friday evening I, and my two brothers, needed emergency foster care, as my birth mother was suffering a mental health crisis and had nobody else to help her.
Iris contacted her closest friend Sibyl, and asked her if she could take the then five week old me into her home, instead of a children's home.
She agreed, and then went on to eventually adopt me.
It would, clearly, have been simpler for her to let me go into the care system, but because of her loving and kind hearted nature, I was adopted into a family I stayed with for the rest of my life.
Iris went on to be my Godmother and was also at my confirmation and wedding.
I went for lunch with her on the 30th July as I was in the area and hadn't seen her for a few years
Words can never express the gratitude I have for my Auntie Iris.
A long time family friend of David and Barbara Ellis. My Godmother and a great support throughout my life.
Very many happy memories of visits and time together .
I feel a huge sense of loss on top of my own recent bereavement .
So sorry not to have been able to say farewell but rest peacefully in Gods care.
Blessings from
Rosemary Darby and the Ellis family
